Cookie Notice

This Cookie Notice explains the cookies and similar local-storage technologies ReadNTag uses. It supplements our Privacy Policy.

Strictly-necessary cookies

These cookies are needed for the Service to work, so they do not ask for your consent.

  • Session cookie (session). A signed cookie that keeps you signed in. It is set only after you sign in, and it lasts up to 7 days, or until you sign out.
  • Sign-in cookies (cognito_state, cognito_next). While you sign in, they check that the sign-in you return from is the one you started, and remember which page to show you next. They last up to 30 minutes.
  • Two-step sign-in cookie (pending_2fa). If you use two-step verification, it holds the first step of your sign-in for up to 10 minutes while you enter your code.
  • File access cookies (CloudFront-Policy, CloudFront-Signature, CloudFront-Key-Pair-Id). When you open one of your files in the reader, they let our content delivery network serve that file to you and to no one else. They last up to 6 hours.
  • Preview cookie (rnt_features). Set only if a page is opened with the preview switch we use for testing. It lasts until you close your browser.
  • Local storage (your browser). We store your interface preferences (theme, font size, reader layout, saved searches, and the dismissed state of notices) and your cookie choice in your browser. This stays on your device and is not sent to our servers.
  • Browser extension storage. If you install the extension, it keeps your connection key, your settings and the other items listed in Section 11b of our Privacy Policy on your device. The key is sent only to ReadNTag, with each request.

Optional cookies (consent-based)

These cookies are set only after you choose Accept all in our consent dialog.

  • Product analytics (PostHog). With your consent, we use PostHog, a product-analytics provider, to understand how the Service is used so that we can improve it. PostHog stores a small analytics cookie (and related local-storage entries) that records usage events such as pages viewed and features used. PostHog data is processed on PostHog's US host (us.posthog.com). PostHog is listed on our Sub-processors page, which forms part of our Privacy Policy.
  • Sign-up attribution cookie (rnt_attr). If you arrive from another website or from a campaign link, we store a small first-party cookie for up to 90 days that records where you came from: the referring site and any campaign tags in the link, never the page you read there. It lets us see which links bring people who sign up. It is never set for a direct visit.

These optional cookies are separate from the first-party usage analytics we run on our own servers (no cookie is set for that). The first-party analytics, and its opt-out, are described in our Privacy Policy.

We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site advertising tracking.

Managing and withdrawing consent

Optional cookies are off by default. They are set only after you choose Accept all in our consent dialog; choosing Necessary only keeps the Service fully usable with no optional cookie. To change your choice later, open Cookie preferences from the footer, or go to Settings → Privacy & cookies. The same place lets you opt out of our first-party usage analytics.
